Las Vegas is a top travel destination in the U.S., with more than 7,000 rooms, 2,800 restaurants, and 225 gambling venues, as well as access to some exciting excursions into the desert.

With a lot of options to think about, visitors must plan and prepare for their adventure in the Sin City. But before you book your ticket and pack your bags, consider the following:

1. Hotel Accommodation and Activities

Experts recommend staying on the Strip, which runs from Mandalay Bay to Treasure Island. The town offers exceptional hotels, including the The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, which offers three distinct pools, a 100,000-square-foot casino and distinctive French, Asian, Mexican, and Italian restaurants. Visitors can also take advantage of free tours of the botanical gardens in the Bellagio, the Secret Garden at the Mirage, the Canals of the Venetian, or other similar attractions.

To see the Vegas skyline, take the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower and Stratosphere.

2. Casinos

Las Vegas boasts some of the finest casinos in the world. While all are for serious gamblers, some are tourist attractions. The more glitzy and visually attractive, eye-popping casinos are the Bellagio; Venetian; New York New York; and the Paris.

There are still a few casinos beyond Treasure Island (Sahara’s, Circus Circus, and the Stratosphere), which are worth a visit. Old Las Vegas still has the more traditional card rooms and slots downtown, especially on Fremont Street.  This area, once known as “Glitter Gulch” and home to the Golden Nugget, was host to many famous movie sets.

The area is also where visitors will find the well-known landmark of a giant neon cowboy tipping his hat to greet visitors to Downtown Las Vegas with a loud “howdy partner!” As times have changed, the cowboy is now silenced.

3. Time of Year

Las Vegas boasts more than 300 days of sunshine annually and its temperature ranges from 45 degrees fahrenheit in January to 95 in July. To enjoy the outdoors, visit during the warmer months (May to September) to take advantage of hotel pools and water slides. Since temperatures can vary dramatically between day and night, plan outdoor activities such as a trip to the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, Black Canyon, or simply a walk down the strip.

4. Entertainment and Dinner Reservations

These can make the trip special, so check out the extensive entertainment schedule at the official Las Vegas Tourism site. It’s best to secure tickets as early as possible, either directly from the venue or an online ticket outlet. Vegas has more than 2,800 restaurants, which — unsurprisingly — includes some exceptional restaurants.

The best way to check them is by doing your research. For the top-rated dining establishments, reservations are essential.

Planning and preparing for a vacation is essential to maximizing its benefits, and Las Vegas is no different. Remember to make a list of your personal preferences and cross-check them with the aforementioned list to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want during your time in the Sin City.
