Taking the family away for a summer holiday is something that everyone invariably looks forward to year after year. Choosing the perfect destination that will have plenty to do as well as being safe for youngsters can be tricky. Spain is always a great option, with endless hours of sunshine as well as plenty of child friendly resorts and attractions to keep them going all holiday long. Benidorm is known as being one of the best of these resorts, and for a number of reasons.

Reasons to have a family holiday in Benidorm

The number one reason that tourists choose Benidorm in particular is for the typical characteristics you’d expect of a Spanish summer holiday: sun, sea and sand.

Beaches in Benidorm

Benidorm is home to several beaches that are perfect not only for sunbathers, but also for families looking to have fun in the sun. Levante Beach at the east side of Benidorm and Poniente Beach in the west are both blue flag, meaning that they have clean, safe waters and sands. Poniente is generally the less crowded of the two, but Levante has more to do such as a floating play area out to sea with slides and rafts. Many of the accommodation options in Benidorm are within easy distance of at least one of the beaches.

Theme parks

If your kids tend to get a little bored of being on the beach or round the pool all holiday, take them to burn off a bit of energy at one of the nearby theme parks that Benidorm is famous for. Terra Mitica is the most popular and biggest, based around the theme of ancient Mediterranean civilisations, with everything to see and do from thrilling rollercoasters to the Trojan Horse. Younger kids might be better spending the day somewhere like Mundomar though. This water park is known for its spectacular dolphin show as well as being home to countless other types of marine life. Little ones will be fascinated by the amount of things on offer.

Jeep safari

Marco Polo Expedition Jeep Safari is a great day out for all the family too. Hop on board one of the custom jeeps with your own tour guide and head off on your bouncy tour of the mountainous landscape around Benidorm. You’ll pass by some stunning views, natural waterfalls and reservoirs, and will stop off for lunch at an inexpensive local restaurant, possibly in the mountain village of Guadalest, to taste some traditional delicacies. The kids will love to explore what seems to them to be an undiscovered landscape.

Take a boat trip

Their interest is bound to be piqued by a boat trip out to Benidorm Island, or ‘Peacock Island’ as it is colloquially known, obviously, for its peacock population. Boats depart several times throughout the day and there’s even the option of having a glass bottomed one. The kids are bound to be enthralled by the marine life passing right under their feet, and occasionally you’ll be lucky enough to spot dolphins playing alongside your boat as it skims through the water.

A family holiday in Benidorm is sure to be one to remember.
