It can be tough trying to pack for a winter holiday, as the clothing you’ll need is that much bulkier and heavier than what you would take in summer. Don’t let this deter you though, particularly when your winter destination is Canada. To get your luggage sorted, below are some great suggestions as to what you should pack for a winter holiday in Canada.

Table of Contents

Tough Luggage

Although Canada can have many stunning days during winter, there could still be days that aren’t so pleasant, so your luggage, as well as you, need to be able to cope with this. Something made from a durable, water-resistant material is a perfect choice, as you want your gear to be protected when facing the elements. An additional water-proof cover for your backpack wouldn’t go astray either.

Thermals and a warm jacket are a must when you pack for a winter holiday in Canada

Thermals

Something you should definitely pack for a winter holiday in Canada is thermal underwear. Although not the most attractive form of clothing around, you’ll be happy for their company during the night. Wearing thermals under your clothing at night and during the day helps to stop body heat from escaping, keeping you toasty. This also includes socks, gloves, boots and hats with thermal linings. It can get bitterly cold during Canada’s winter, and if you’re not prepared for this it could be a very miserable holiday.

Wet Weather Gear

Winter weather in Canada can be so unpredictable, cold and wet! So wet weather gear is a must when you pack for a winter holiday in Canada. Try and take one big jacket with you, but purchase or hire all other snow gear over there to save space in your luggage. Wet weather gear is different though, as you may need this constantly. Spray jackets are a great idea as they are light and can be thrown over whatever you already have on. Also, your feet will get wet, so make sure you have a couple of pairs of good quality shoes that are not going to allow the snow or rain to seep into your socks.

Medicine

The last thing you want when you’re on holidays is to end up sick, but it does happen, especially if you’re out in the cold every day. Pharmacies and medical centres are relatively easy to find, but it can be very inconvenient and often expensive. Create a travel first aid kit and pack medicines such as pain killers, cold tablets and throat lozenges in your luggage for day-to-day use, especially if travelling with children or people that are particularly susceptible to colds and flus.

A Camera

Winter in a country like Canada is something to be truly marvelled at, so a decent camera should definitely be on your list when you pack for a winter holiday in Canada – and not just the camera on your phone either! It might be an obvious one, but it could also be something that gets missed if you’re distracted by all your other packing. Don’t forget!

With marvellous mountains, breathtaking ski fields and stunning lakes, Canada is a spectacular country to visit. And, although just as incredible during summer, Canada really comes alive in winter. Making sure to pack the above items will help you get the most out of your Canadian winter wonderland so it can be a holiday you’ll remember forever.
