Modern golf is thought to have evolved from Scotland in the Middle Ages, spreading into the rest of the UK in the 19th century. Golf has since become a popular sport all over the world. Not just that, but more importantly, people are choosing holidays where they can have it all, sun, sea, sand and of course, golf (without the ball spending too much time on the beach of course). A golfing holiday in the Algarve may be the perfect blend of it all.

Golfing in the Algarve

Since the 1960s the Algarve has seen a huge amount of development due to the popular demand from an increased number of visitors. It was around this time that they began construction of a huge variety of hotels, villas, resorts, and golf courses that are now considered to be some of the best in Europe.

It is with thanks to the legendary Henry Cotton, who first put the Algarve on the golf globe. In the mid-sixties, at Penina, he designed the first grass course. It was just the first of three that he designed in the Algarve.
