They are something you can never have anyplace else. That’s what makes it a destination towering above the rest.

From the time you set foot in Ladakh, you can sense the bliss and the serenity of the place. Taking the spiritual experience of Ladakh to another level are the monasteries of the destination. You can find monasteries located at breathtaking heights, in quaint villages as well as along arduous treks. Some of the must visit monasteries of Ladakh include the Thiksey Monastery, Alchi Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery and the Deskit Monastery.

The amazing valleys

Ladakh is blessed with some amazing valleys. You will be smitten by the beauty of these valleys, which take you through varied terrains. There is the Nubra Valley, or the valley of flowers as it is called. Seeing the flowers in full bloom here during the summer season is such a refreshing experience. Then there is the Markha Valley which takes you through rugged terrains, lush green pastures and views of majestic mountain peaks.

There is Zingchen Valley too, with its quaint valleys and a glimpse into the local life of the people. And that’s just the beginning of the list.

There is trekking for all

Ladakh is a haven for trekkers, beginners as well as experts. There are a lot of trekking trails to choose from in this amazing land. If you are looking for something easy and more spiritual, consider taking the trek from Lamayuru to Alchi. The trek takes through several important monasteries of the region, without being too strenuous.

If you want to up the ante a bit, Markha Valley Trek is ideal. The trek has quite a few difficult stretches to conquer with plenty of respite in between. The views you get while on this trek keep you motivated and enthralled by the beauty of the place.

For the experts out there who are into extreme adventure, there are quite a few options Ladakh throws at you. Take a trek to the top of Stok Kangri or Kang Yatse, and take in the breathtaking views from the summit. Or consider taking the 20 day Chadar Trek in the months of January or February, where you get to walk on the frozen Zanskar River and so much more.

There are other activities too to be a part of

Trekking is not the only thing you get to indulge in when in Ladakh. There are plenty of other options you have.

River Rafting

The thrilling rapids of Zanskar River beckon you for an adrenaline pumping session of River Rafting. Take the 35 km long rafting trek from Chilling to Nemo, which takes you through Grade III and Grade IV rapids.

Even if you are not much of a bike-person, biking in Ladakh is something you will love. Take a biking tour of Khardung La Pass- the highest motorable pass in the world. Make your way through meandering roads and some pretty steep climbs, and feel the rush as you make your way down them.

Archery

You can even try your hand at archery in Ladakh. Several villages in Ladakh hold regular archery competitions, and these are given great respect.
